To Camazotz

Today I managed to pick up everything I needed to start up Camazotz - a 3DS XL and a second copy of New Leaf (I also bought Kirby: Triple Deluxe and a carrying case, but that's not relevant to this blog). After waiting for the Bug-Off time to come to an end, I started the game up and got things going.

Sadly I couldn't take pictures of the very earliest part (the conversation with Rover), but the basics of that was that the mayor is named Danielle, her town is indeed named Camazotz, and that it's a fairly wide open town with lots of space for public works projects.

It didn't take long for the train to arrive at Camazotz, and with the arrival comes the first picture I managed to take:
She didn't come out that badly, I think. I'm not fond of that hairstyle, but as you'll see later on that was easily rectified. Nothing much of importance here; as Danielle was the first human resident of Camazotz Porter didn't have anything to say to her right now.

She stepped outside to be greeted by a bull, a hamster, a duck, and a shih tzu.
Much to Danielle's consternation, the shih tzu addressed her as mayor.

Try as she might, she couldn't convince the dog otherwise. Well, since the animals are apparently that stubborn might as well run with it. The shih tzu told Danielle to come to the town hall to finish discussing things, and after some looking around and getting to know the other three animals that greeted her a little better (at the least, she learned their names were Freckles, Clay, and T-bone) she complied.

(Oops, looks like Isa-er, the shih tzu didn't manage to finish talking when I took that second picture. I just wanted to catch Danielle's distressed expression.)

After arriving at the town hall, the shih tzu introduced herself as Isabelle and announced that she was Danielle's secretary. She started to go into the list of things that Danielle needed to fully become mayor (as well as voicing surprise at her age) until....

Oh dear.

As it turned out, Danielle hadn't even gotten a house yet. Isabelle directed her to Nook's Homes to get that rectified as soon as possible. Danielle first took another look around to find the two residents who hadn't greeted her before making her way to Nook's.

Thankfully for Danielle Tom Nook had already expected her and was happy enough to build her a home. Danielle already had an idea of where to place her house, and so....

She chose a spot close to Re-tail, which incidentally also was close to the town hall. Nook had no problems with this and things went smoothly (though I think I might have bowled over the tree with the perfect fruit on it....Ah well). Nook placed a tent down for her to await her new house before going off to calculate the cost.

Danielle made her way back to the town hall and finished registering as a resident of Camazotz. Isabelle asked her to take part in a ceremony marking her as mayor. Since Danielle isn't a major party pooper like that, she agreed.

And there she finally saw the two residents of Mabure she hadn't properly met - a rhinoceros and a rooster.

She didn't dwell on them for long; she planted the tree and cemented herself as Camazotz's new mayor. Afterwards, Isabelle let her go do what she wanted and returned to the town hall to finish other business. Without having to worry about getting settled, Danielle went to properly meet the residents.

First up were the three animals who had initially greeted her, starting with Freckles the peppy duck. It appeared the two of them would get along well enough.

(No, I don't remember what any of these conversations were about, so I'm not going to write them down. Also, Freckles is cute enough for my tastes.)

Then there was T-Bone the cranky bull, although he wasn't cranky when giving Danielle advice.

(I think T-Bone managed something I thought impossible when it comes to Animal Crossing villagers: I actually don't like him. I don't mind cranky villagers (Rocco is one of my favorites in Mabure), but his design is a little too weird for my tastes. His eyes especially; they're too small and very oddly placed. I'm not going to try and actively chase him out, but if he tries to move I won't stop him.)

Clay the lazy hamster thankfully wasn't as bad, though he did have food on his mind.

(Clay's design also bothered me a little at first, then I realized he looked like a Dogu and that was enough to make me like him. Plus I'm really fond of the lazy villagers.)

Merengue the normal rhino went back home after the ceremony and was still there when Danielle came knocking. She congratulated her on the ceremony before properly introducing herself.

(Merengue's not bad looking at all, and plus she's also one of the most popular villagers - she's currently #3 on the popularity list over at the Bell Tree Forums and was #1 for quite a while. While I really don't care about "dreamies" and villager trading, I'm still happy to have one of the really popular ones. She's normal too, and normal's up there with lazy in favorite personality types.)

Finally, there was Goose the jock rooster. He had confidence in Danielle's ability to be a mayor and looked forwards to her actions.

(Jock is my least favorite personality type, but I like Goose all the same. I don't have much to comment on about him, though.

All in all, I'm content with Camazotz's initial villagers, T-Bone aside. The variety is a step up from Mabure, at any rate.)

With that out of the way, Danielle got around to making some money by selling fruits and bought herself a shovel and a net. She dug up all the stuff she could find (all of it fossils) and caught a few bugs, before donating the whole lot to the museum after getting acquianted with Blathers.

Afterwards, she had business to attend to in another town. But first she did some clothes shopping....
And found there was something there that was a little too expensive for her taste. She ignored it and just bought a bat umbrella before leaving.

(Somehow, I'm not surprised I had this happen, but all the same: pfffffft.)

After that was done, she headed to the train station to visit the town of Mabure, where she had heard there was a hair salon. She made sure to get a picture for her TPC, which prompted this from Porter:

Afterwards, she made her way to Mabure, made some money by selling the local fruit, and then went to get her hair styled. She then did some extra shopping to pick up some things that weren't available in Camazotz before returning home.

(Sadly, I somehow didn't think to take pictures during this whole excursion. Ah well; you'll get to see what Mabure looks like in the next update).

When she returned, she sold the bunch of perfect apples and one of the goliath beetles she had captured in Mabure to easily earn enough bells to pay off her down payment and receive a house the next day.
Her new hair style was quite a jump from her old one and made her look significantly different, but it was a much needed improvement all the same.

After taking care of that and some other things (namely buying some furniture for her tent) she finally talked to the chameleon standing in the town square. As it turned out, she had arrived too late to be an active competitor in the Bug Off, but the awards ceremony was still open. Without anything better to do, she attended.

The winner was Clay with a walking leaf worth 40 points. The runners up were Freckles with a fruit beetle worth 32 points and T-Bone with a snail worth 33 points (guess it was raining in Camazotz before Danielle arrived).

Everyone congratulated the winners and then went on their merry way.

Afterwards, Danielle returned to the town hall to meet with Isabelle. She didn't learn anything she hadn't already figured out, but she managed to obtain a fishing rod and a watering can for her trouble and also sent a letter to Merengue.

When that was all said and done, she returned to her tent, organized some things, and then went to sleep...or at least took a brief nap. There were still some basic things in Camazotz to be done.

And that's all I have for the first day of Camazotz. With it out of the way, I'll say a few things about the blog.

First off, I don't plan on updating every day. Sometimes nothing interesting happens, and sometimes I just don't feel up to it. However, I do plan on updating it frequently, and usually there'll be two updates in a day: one for Mabure and one for Camazotz. Naturally, early on there'll be a lot of updates about Camazotz as it just started, but as time goes on things will even out.

Until the next one, folks.

Tales of Two Towns

So I'm an avid Animal Crossing player who likes to record what he does in his game, yet had nowhere to actually put this stuff down. So I decided to make a blog about it. Simple enough story, right?

I used to play Wild World a long time ago, but for one reason or the other stopped and didn't pay much attention to the series up until I decided to watch Chuggaconroy's Let's Play of New Leaf. It was enough to make me remember how much fun I had with Wild World, and so I picked up New Leaf about two months ago and started anew. It quickly became my favorite 3DS game.

I think that's enough of a backstory. So what do I plan on doing with this blog now that I have it? As I just said, I'm mostly going to record everything that goes on in my game. Or games, rather. You see, I plan on covering not one, but two towns here.

The first town is Mabure, which is my main town. It's already fairly established (among other things, it has perfect town status), but there is enough remaining for some interesting stories to be told, and plus I'm fairly attached to it. Its name comes from a town in Chrono Cross, which I believe is a monster town (having never played the game and not even knowing much about it beyond listening to its soundtrack, I might be wrong here). The in-game animals (usually) aren't monsters, but I decided it fit.

The second town is titled Camazotz (after a planet from A Wrinkle in Time, though hopefully it'll be a nicer place than that was), and is made specifically for this blog. Since Mabure was established long before I came up with the idea, I decided to grab a second copy of New Leaf (along with a 3DS XL) so I could document the development of a brand-new town and hopefully make things more interesting for blog readers.

Besides chronicling my towns, I'll also keep an eye on the general AC community and post something here if anything interesting comes up. As of this writing I've only just started so there's nothing to report, but that's very likely to change sometime in the future.

One last thing: Despite my in-game characters all being girls, I am very much a male (a decidedly feminine male, but still a male). I just prefer playing as a female when given the option. I don't actually think of my in-game character actually being me like some people do; I see it more as a role-playing thing (hence why I have a tendency to name my characters after characters in the stories I write).

I think I've said everything that's needed to be said. Please excuse the dust; the blog is very much a WIP in case you haven't noticed. I'm hoping to clean it up a bit as time goes on. I hope it'll all be somewhat enjoyable nevertheless.
